Aquatics Facilities

The Student Recreation Facility and the Sport & Fitness Center provide the opportunity for lap and recreational swimming. Both aquatic facilities are fully accessible and ADA compliant.

Swimming Pool Policies


Swimming Pool Rules

  • All users must wear swimwear when entering the pool area. No street clothes can be worn in the water.
  • Infants and toddlers must wear swim diapers or swim pants that are form-fitting.
  • All users must shower before entering the pool area.
  • Running, pushing, or horseplay will not be toelrated in the pool or on the deck area.
  • No food or drinks are allowed in the pool area, except for water.
  • Only non-breakable containers are allowed. No glass in the pool area.
  • No gum or adhesive bandages are allowed in the pool.
  • Users with open wounds or infectious diseases are not allowed in the pool.
  • Spitting or spouting of water is not allowed in the pool.
  • Parties and groups are only permitted to use designated pool areas as stipulated in Pool Rental Agreement.
  • Adults (18+) must be present at all times to supervise the children in the pool. Children (17 and under) may not use lap lanes, spa, sauna, and/or steam room.
  • Children under the age of 9 who are swimming must be supervised by an adult (18+) in the water. Each adult can only supervise up to three children (under the age of 9) while in the water.
  • Children may not use kickboards or buoys. Children may use the inner tubes, U.S. Coast Guard Approved flotation devices, or swimming fins, unless deemed unsafe by the Recreation Staff/Lifeguard..


Aqua/MAC Suite

  • Parties are responsible for set-up before and clean-up after their room reservation
  • All food must be store bought or delivered (catered).
  • Perishable foods, made with milk, eggs, or mayonnaise products, are not allowed in the facility, for example: dips, creams, cheese sauces, cole slaw, potato salad, and macaroni salad.
  • Food that must be cooked, heated, or chilled is not allowed. The use of sternos (portable heating candles) is not allowed.


Sauna Rules

  • Proper swimming attire is required.
  • No personal belongings of any kind are allowed in the Sauna.
  • Lewd or suggestive behavior will not be tolerated.
  • Nobody under the age of 18 is allowed in the Sauna.
  • Adjustments to the Sauna or tending to the rocks are not permitted. Alert Campus Recreation Staff if the Sauna is not functioning properly.


Steam Room Rules

  • Proper swimming attire is required.
  • No personal belongings of any kind are allowed in the Steam Room.
  • Lewd or Suggestive behavior will not be tolerated.
  • Nobody under the age of 18 is allowed in the Steam Room.
  • Adjustments to the steam are not permitted. Alert Campus Recreation Staff is the Steam Room is not functioning properly.


Lap Swim

If you are age 16 or older and want a full-body workout, visit our lanes for lap swimming during designated times. Except during special events and/or pool rentals, the lap lanes are reserved exclusively for lap swimming during peak hours.

6:00 AM – 8:00 AM
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
5:00 PM – 7:00 PM


Pool Rentals

The Student Recreation Facility Aquatics Center is available for private rental to all recognized UIC student organizations. For more information on availability and rates, please contact Chris Stachewicz at cstach@uic.edu.


Birthday Party Rental

Your birthday party rental may include use of the leisure pool and a party room for three hours.

Learn to Swim

Everyone from tots to adults can learn to swim at UIC Campus Recreation.  Our full complement of Learn to Swim classes is perfect for participants of all ages who want to become comfortable in the water.  Instruction is lead by a certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and the class is taught according to American Red Cross Learn to Swim curriculum.

For safety purposes, all spectators must observe classes from the Aqua Suite.



Registration

Registration for all UIC Campus Recreation Learn-to-Swim classes must be completed in person at the Student Recreation Facility – ONLY! Contact Chris Stachewicz at cstach@uic.edu for more information.

Children's prices are for eight 30 minute lessons. Adult prices are for eight one hour sessions.


Class Makeup Policy

Participants requesting to cancel a lesson must notify the instructor at least 24 hours in advance otherwise the lesson will be forfeited.  Lesson makeup is based on the Instructor’s availability and is permitted if absence is due to illness or if scheduled lesson is cancelled. 


Private Swim Lessons

Private swim lessons are scheduled on an individual basis, 1:1 instructor to participant ratio, and lessons can be tailored to fit any swimming level. Participants must come to the Student Recreation facility, 737 S. Halsted, to register and pay the appropriate registration fee.

Parent & Tot Water Orientation

These eight 45 minute lessons are designed to help your toddlers develop swimming readiness and become comfortable in the water. Children must be at least 6 months old by the start date of the class to enroll. One parent or caregiver must accompany each child in the water. Children who are not toilet-trained must wear a swim diaper and tight-fitting plastic pants over diaper (NO disposable or cloth diapers).
